An eastbound hopper train struggles up the grade at Cassandra, PA on Track 1. This shot was taken from the "Railfan Bridge" spanning the tracks. This was an excellent vantage point, albeit a little shadowy at this time of day - it was around 10:30 a.m. SD40-2 3351 does the honors on the front. Note the all-blue lashup. Like most trains on the hill, this one had two pushers on the rear.

A westbound intermodal passes under the Cassandra bridge. If diesel exhaust bothers you, this is not the place to be - you get blasted with each passing train. Note the position light signals at CP-BC in the background.

These are the helpers for the intermodal train in the picture above. This combination of two SD40-2s, one in blue and one in black, seemed very popular. We didn't see any all-black helper consists during the entire trip. A few all-blue helper sets are still around, though. The poles on the right support netting for a rockslide detector fence.
