From North Platte, we backtracked about 250 miles east to Lincoln, which is 50 miles south of Omaha. Lincoln is a longtime railroad hub, originally for the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad, and now the BNSF. BNSF's lines form an "X" here, with lines radiating out for Chicago, the Powder River Basin, Kansas City and Denver. The center of the "X" is this junction in downtown Lincoln, just to the east of BNSF's Hobson Yard. This westbound train is led by two "Grinstein Green" SD70s. Note the state capitol building in the upper right hand corner of the image.

A GP39E lays over next to the Lincoln Amtrak station, assigned to inspection train service. This unit was formerly a GP35, and maintains its Burlington Northern Cascade Green scheme unaltered.

Just to the northeast of Lincoln is Havelock, NE, where the main shops of the CB&Q were located. BNSF still maintains a large car shop here today. This SW1500 is parked at the west end of the facility.
